Demography of Aging Center

From 2004 to 2016 the Center for Health and Wellbeing was home to a Demography of Aging Center, funded by the National Institute of Aging. The center was directed by Christina Paxson from 2004 to 2009, and by Anne Case from 2010 to 2016.

The goals of the Center were to foster new research on:

  • Interrelationships between socioeconomic status and health as people age
  • Determinants of decision-making and wellbeing among the elderly
  • Determinants and policy consequences of increased longevity and population aging across and within countries over time.

An area of special emphasis was research on how HIV/AIDS affects the health and living conditions of the elderly.

The research was conducted through the numerous small pilot projects listed below.
